By now, we all know one of the most influential voices in music and pop culture was silenced yesterday and the world will never be the same.  Michael Jackson’s influence can be found in nearly all of today’s biggest and most successful performers.  It’s been said that Michael Jackson was the “Artist’s Artist”, the “Performer’s Performer” – he set a standard that has proven almost impossible to meet.

As I look back at the history of The Inspiration, as I know it, I can’t think of a show that didn’t include a performance of one of Michael Jackson’s classics.  Each semester brought yet another Michael Jackson song. From “Man In the Mirror” (which was performed numerous times) and “Human Nature” to “Will You Be There”, “Off The Wall”, “PYT” and “Heaven Can Wait”, The Inspiration always found a way to pay homage to the greatness of this musical icon.  Our renditions of his music can be found on several of the Inspiration’s CDs and even as the alumni moved forward with the upcoming CD of The Inspiration Alumni Foundation (IAF), Michael Jackson’s presence was felt. We just had to go back to “Human Nature” and “Man In the Mirror” and include a new arrangement for the legend’s classic, “Can’t Help It”.  The Inspiration wouldn’t be the same without Michael Jackson and undoubtedly, more music from this musical genius can and will be added to The Inspiration and The IAF’s repertoire.  Michael Jackson has touched the world, including the Inspiration and its alumni, and we know that as long as we continue to celebrate his music, he will live on.

Rest in peace, Michael. You opened doors for all of us and you will forever be in our hearts, minds and in our music.
